Giving Back Locally
Spa Mizan takes pride in giving back to our community. As a trusted partner in transforming local resources into opportunities, contributing to local charitable organizations is a regular part of what we do and our way of saying thank you to a community that has done so much for us. Spa Mizan has contributed more than $100,000.00 to local organizations helping them to gain access to the tools and skills they need to improve our community.
Giving Back Nationally
Earth Month - Since the 1999 Earth Month campaign, Spa Mizan has participated with AVEDA to help raise more than $14.2 million and millions more in awareness. All money raised in Louisiana stayed in Louisiana.
Breast Cancer Awareness - Every October Spa Mizan donates a portion of our proceeds from the sale of our Pink Ribbon Hand Relief to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Since 2004 Spa Mizan has been a part of AVEDA's total contribution of more than $1.2 million to this very important cause.
Recycle Caps with AVEDA - as part of AVEDA's cap recycling program, we have helped to extend the current boundaries of recycling and encouraged participation from all corners of our community. Often these caps end up as liter or trash and migrate into our rivers and oceans. Birds and other marine creatures mistake these for food with tragic results. The magnitude of this pollution problem is devastating to our oceans and wildlife.
Giving Back Internationally
Every Gift Brightens Lives - Not just another pretty package. Since Holiday 2007, the renewably-sourced, hand crafted paper in our AVEDA gift sets is harvested through sustainable methods from the bark of the Lokta shrub high in the Himalayas and brightens the future for families and forests - keeping families together, and reversing deforestation and its effect on global climate.
What once were over cut forests in Nepal are owned and managed today by a natural products processing and trading company run by a consortium of forest user groups. Participating women now have a way to support themselves, helping them have a say in their future for the first time. More men in the region now are able to remain with their families instead of leaving to find work in India.
Their land management efforts - certified by the worldwide Forest Stewardship standards - help heal forests once near destruction, and are supported by public-private alliances, including planning, training and advising from AVEDA.
Today forests are protected, households remain intact and Nepal villages are empowered - setting an example for environmental leadership and social responsibility.
Since its conception, The Every Gift Brightens Lives program has raised household incomes by 318%, reduced migration for jobs by 15% and has allowed more than 4800 children to go to school.
